দিনটা ছিল ৯ই অক্টোবর, রবিবার,২০১৬ , দূর্গাপূজার অষ্টমী। পাড়ার পূজা প্যান্ডেলে ভীষণ ভীড়। অজস্র মা ও বোনেরা পূজার ডালি, ফল, মিষ্টি নিয়ে লাইন দিয়ে দাড়িয়ে। রাস্তার পাশে বেশ কিছু ক্ষুধার্ত মানুষের মুখ।আমার মনে হল মাটির প্রতিমা যেন কাঁদছে এই অসহায় মানুষগুলোকে দেখে আর বলছে আমাকে নয় তোরা ওদেরকে আগে পূজা কর। ওদের ক্ষুধা নিবারণ কর।আমি চলে গেলাম দমদম ক্যান্টনমেন্ট স্টেশনের ১ নম্বর প্ল্যাটফর্মে। সেখানে পরিচয় হয়েছিল ৮০ বছরের এক দুঃখিনী বৃদ্ধা মায়ের সাথে। যে মায়ের তিন পুত্র থাকলেও তারা তার মাকে দেখেনা। সেই মা থাকে তার মেয়ের ঘরের এক কোনে ও রোজ সকাল ১১ টা থেকে দুপুর ৩ টে পর্যন্ত্য পাতি লেবু ও কাগজি লেবু বিক্রি করে নিজের খরচ চালায়। আমি তার কাছে একটি শাড়ি ও পাঁচটি ফল নিয়ে গিয়ে মা এর পাশে বসে মাকে দিলাম অঞ্জলি। মাকে প্রণাম করে মায়ের হাসি মুখ দেখে প্রাণ জুড়ালো। মনে হল এটাই আমার জীবনের শ্রেষ্ঠ অঞ্জলি। এক পথচারি তুলে দিল মায়ের সাথে আমার একটি ছবি।এরপর গেলাম ৩ নম্বর প্ল্যাটফর্মে।

সেখানে পাশের বস্তির ও প্ল্যাটফর্মের কিছু দুঃস্থ ও ক্ষুধার্ত শিশুদেরকে করালাম স্বল্পাহার। ওদের হাসি মুখগুলি দেখে মন খুশী হল। এক হকার ভাই তুলে দিল কিছু ছবি।সেদিন বিকেলে পোস্ট করলাম “আমার অঞ্জলি” ফেসবুকে। আমার “যাযাবর পাখিরালয়” এর বন্ধুরা সেই পোস্ট দেখে উৎসাহিত হয়ে বললো, “দাদা চলোনা এত সুন্দর মানবসেবার কাজটা আমরা সবাই মিলে করি”। ওদের কথা মনে ধরলো। শুরু হল আমাদের পথচলা। এক থেকে দশ, দশ থেকে একশো, একশো থেকে গতদশবছরে আজ আমরা সহস্র।আমি কৃতজ্ঞতা জানাই সুখের চাদরের সকল ভাই, বোন, বন্ধু ও শুভাকাঙ্খীদের প্রতি সমাজের অসহায়, দুঃস্থ, নিরন্ন মানুষদের পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে তাদের নিঃস্বার্থ ভালবাসা ও অবদান দেবার জন্য। কি অক্লান্ত পরিশ্রম করে চলেছে সবাই সততা ও নিষ্ঠার সাথে মানবসেবার ব্রত নিয়ে।
আজ আমরা তিনটি প্রকল্প "শিক্ষা জ্যোতি " , " আস্থা জ্যোতি " ও "আরোগ্য জ্যোতির" মাধ্যমে ১২ টি দীর্ঘকালীন ও একাধিক তৎকালীন প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে সারাবছর ধরে অজস্র মানুষদের পাশে থাকার প্রচেষ্টা চালিয়ে যাচ্ছি। আমরা আরও অনেক পথ চলতে চাই, আরও বহু মানুষদেরকে সুখের চাদর পরাতে চাই। তোমরা পাশে থেকো বন্ধু।সেদিনের সুখের চাদর এর বীজ রোপণের পোস্টটি দিলাম নিচে - -

“চিন্ময়ী মায়ের শোকে মৃন্ময়ী প্রতিমা কাঁদে””পূজো মন্ডপে বড্ড ভীড়। আমি তাই আজ অনেকদিন পর মন্ডপের বাইরে দমদম ক্যান্টনমেন্ট রেল স্টেশনে মহাঅষ্টমীর অঞ্জলী দিলাম। মায়ের সাথে গল্প করলাম অনেক। নতুন বসন (সুখের চাদর) ও পঞ্চ ফল পেয়ে মায়ের মুখের মমতাময়ী হাসিটা আমার পরম প্রাপ্তি। সঙ্গে মায়ের ৩০ জন সন্তানকে(পথ শিশু) মায়ের প্রসাদ বিতরন করে ধন্য হলাম।সবাইকে মহাষ্টমীর শুভেচ্ছা জানাই।

The day was 9th October, Sunday, 2016 — Durga Puja, Mahashtami.There was an overwhelming crowd at our neighborhood puja pandal. Countless mothers and sisters stood in long queues with offerings of fruits, sweets, and puja trays. Along the roadside, I noticed many hungry and helpless faces.It felt as if the clay idol herself was crying upon seeing them, as if she were saying, “Do not worship me first—worship them. Quench their hunger.”I went to Platform No. 1 of Dum Dum Cantonment Station. There I met an 80-year-old destitute mother. Despite having three sons, none of them looked after her. She lived in a corner of her daughter’s house and earned her livelihood by selling lemons and key limes every day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.I went to her with one saree and five fruits, sat beside her, and offered my anjali to her. I bowed before her, and seeing her smiling face brought deep peace to my heart. It felt like the greatest anjali of my life. A passerby clicked a photograph of us together.After that, I went to Platform No. 3, where I arranged a simple meal for some destitute and hungry children from the nearby slum and the platform. Seeing their smiling faces filled my heart with joy. A hawker brother took a few photographs.
That evening, I posted on Facebook titled “My Anjali.”
Seeing the post, my friends from “Jajabor Pakhiraloy” felt inspired and said,
“Brother, let’s all come together and do this beautiful work of humanity.”
Their words touched my heart. And thus, our journey began.
From one to ten, ten to a hundred, and over the last ten years, today we are thousands.
I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the brothers, sisters, friends, and well-wishers of Sukher Chador, who stand beside the helpless, destitute, and hungry people of society with selfless love and contribution. Everyone is working tirelessly with honesty and dedication, embracing the vow of human service.
Today, through our three initiatives—
“Shiksha Jyoti,” “Aastha Jyoti,” and “Arogya Jyoti”—
and through 12 long-term projects and several immediate initiatives, we strive throughout the year to stand beside countless people.
We wish to walk many more paths, to cover many more lives with the blanket of happiness.

“My Anjali” — 09.10.2016
“The earthen idol weeps in the grief of the living mother.”
The puja pandal was extremely crowded.
So today, after a long time, I offered my Mahashtami Anjali outside the pandal, at Dum Dum Cantonment Railway Station. I spent time talking with a mother there. Her tender, affectionate smile upon receiving new clothes (the blanket of happiness) and five fruits became my greatest reward.
Along with her, I felt blessed to distribute prasad among her 30 children—the street children.
